Before we get into nitty gritty details and various proven strategies to drive traffic to your blog, let me answer a few basic questions to help you understand the science of traffic.
Most people are always craving for more blog traffic but in reality, they don’t need to worry about getting tons of blog traffic if they understand what is traffic, and how traffic works.
So let me answer:
What is Blog Traffic?
In online marketing terms, when web users visit a website or blog, the term used to describe such users visiting a blog or website is called traffic. For blog, it is called blog traffic. For website, it is website traffic. For E-commerce, it is e-commerce traffic, and so on.
How Blog Traffic Works?
Each web user that visits a blog or website, takes some action or leave instantly after landing as a blog visitor. Such visit is stored as “session” and the time they spend is called session time. The origin of any such session happens two ways: 1) Organic Traffic 2) Forced Traffic
What is Organic Blog Traffic?
When a user finds your blog or website naturally or organically without you having to force the user, it is called organic traffic. For example, when a user searches for any query in search engines to get information, some result appears, then user click on any search result and visits the website. This traffic is counted as organic search traffic coming from search engine. It’s free and best kind of traffic.
What is Forced Website Traffic?
When a user finds your blog or website due to forced action like you sharing your post on social media, or paying for traffic via paid ads, this is called forced traffic as you have to force user to take action i.e. visit your blog or website.
What are Different Types of Website Traffic?
There are various kind of traffic which can ultimately be categorised into paid traffic and free traffic. However, there is also a secret way to classify any traffic into one of the 3 different types. More on that below.
3 Types of Blog Traffic (Best Kept Traffic Secret)
This is one of the best kept traffic secrets so far and very few people know that any traffic can only be categorised into one of these three kinds of traffic.
As mentioned in his Traffic Secrets book, Russel Brunson says, there are 3 types of traffic:
1. Traffic that Own
This is the kind of traffic that you own. For example, your loyal blog readers who subscribed to your email list to get new updates from you. They are traffic that you own. You can reach out to them anytime.
2. Traffic that you Control
This kind of traffic is not owned by you but you control it. For example, I run YouTube ads to drive traffic to my products pages. Since I don’t own YouTube, I don’t own YouTube traffic, but I don have the control to tweak my ads to decide where I want to send that traffic.
3. Traffic that you Earn
This kind of traffic is not owned by you, but instead you earn it. Such as guest appearance on a podcast show. You don’t own the podcast show, but you provide value to their audience and in return, the podcast show host sends traffic to your website. Thus, you earn it.
How to Increase Blog Traffic?
Now that you know the best kept secret about traffic, it’s time to learn how you can generate blog traffic.
But before you learn blog traffic generation strategies and do all the heavy lifting to get traffic to your blog, you need to understand that it starts with the blog post you create.
If your blog post sucks, you’ll always have tough times getting readers to read your blog – no matter which strategy you choose and how hard you work for increasing blog traffic.
So first learn how you can create perfect blog content that would help you increase your blog traffic.
Content Creation for More Blog Traffic
As I previously mentioned, it all starts from the blog post you create. Not every type of content attracts enough amount of traffic. So let me show you can create content a successful blog post suitable for getting more visitors to read your blog:
1. Come up with the Right Blog Post Topic Idea
Writing about whatever excites you, doesn’t work. (sure, you can give it a try!)
If you want to create in-depth content that will attract traffic in the long run, you have to determine whether people are actually interested in that particular topic or not.
As it takes a lot of time to create such a pillar content, you can’t waste your precious time and efforts in creating blog post about topic that has less or no demand at all. Instead, you need to make the best out of every golden opportunity while choosing a topic for creating blog content.
This is why topic research is crucial. Covering the latest industry updates, news can attract a good amount of visitors initially but it doesn’t last for long.
Rather, you should try finding evergreen topics which has good demand in the long run just like evergreen trees that ever keep the planet green.
So, how do you find evergreen topics that are proven to generate passive traffic consistently?
Well, there are two easy ways to find it out –
1. Perform Keyword Research to Find Traffic Increasing Blog Post Ideas
Be it blogging, YouTube video, or podcast episodes – Keyword research is one of the most crucial strategy for growth. In fact, this is so crucial that I preform keyword research for every blog pots, video, or podcast episode I create.
Keyword research is the first thing I do before I write any content. And I advise you do the same. Because keyword research allows you to know the profitability, demand, and supply (competition) for any topic you are going to create content about.
Choose the right keyword means you are able to create the right kind of evergreen post that has consistent demand in the long run. Take any blog post of mine as example, my blog posts are usually targeted to one main search query.
In the language of marketing (more precisely SEO), this search query is often termed and known as keyword.
My primary goal while writing content for that keyword is to create the best content out there so that I can rank higher in search engine.
Of course, there are other factors and steps involved in getting higher ranking for any keyword, but when I do, people searching for that search query can easily find my blog post.
This helps me in driving good amount of free organic traffic from the search engines like Google, Bing, and DuckDuckGo. In fact, this also helps me generate passive traffic as long as I can maintain to rank it well in the search engine result pages (SERPs).
So instead of creating any random blog post, perform keyword research and create keyword-targeted blog posts that answer a particular search query in detail.
In my next blog post, I’ll write a detailed guide about performing keyword research. But in short, you have to keep these factors in mind while selecting a keyword for your blog post:
(A) Keyword Search Volume
The keyword search volume is one of the key factors to estimate how much traffic you can get if ranked on that keyword.
This is just a rough estimation and there are also other metrics as well (like related keywords and the search intent or clicks) that may impact how much traffic a keyword will drive.
For example, if you search for “earn money blogging” in Google, it will pull up a search result about making money with blog.
Please notice that the keyword (“earn money blogging”) that you search for, is not even in the title of blog post that was pulled on top. However, despite that Google is showing this blog post on top in the search results.
This is because the blog post is about “make money with blog” which Google considers a keyword related to “earn money blogging” – what you searched for.
This means two thing:
- If you perform keyword research and choose the right keywords, you can gain free organic traffic from Google and other search engines
- The same blog post may rank for multiple related keywords, thus bringing you more blog traffic
Now search for the same keyword in SEMRush.
As you might have noticed, the primary keyword (earn money online) has a search volume of 590 in the US.
Now, if you target this keyword and rank on top in US, you might expect a 590 monthly search traffic. But in reality, you’ll get even more. It’s because your blog post would also rank and drive traffic for other similar search queries.
That also, no only in US but globally from all over the world.
So this proves that by knowing the keyword search volume, you can’t always precisely say how much traffic you’ll be driving to your blog. Other factors may impact it, but still it’s a good idea for basic estimation of blog traffic.
(B) User Search Intent and SERP Features
Another factor that may impact the amount of blog traffic you’ll get from a keyword is the keyword search intent of a user and SERP features like rich snippets.
For instance, when you search for the “founder of Facebook” you’ll instantly get a snippet result like this in Google.
Notice that the searched keyword has 3600 search volume in India, so someone would expect to get 3600+ monthly blog visitors if the blog post ranks in top 3 for this keyword.
However, in reality, you won’t be able to get that amount of traffic to your blog if you target this keyword and write a blog post about this topic. It’s because the users searching for “CO founder of Facebook” will probably get a straightforward answer from snippets and go back.
So even if you rank in the top 3 for that keyword, still you will drive a very less amount of traffic even though the search volume is massive. So considering the SERP features and intent is also very crucial.
(C) Keyword (Demand) Trends
Apart from the two factors I mentioned above, another important factor is keyword trend which helps you determine whether the keyword is seasoned or evergreen. Most the premium tools like Ahrefs, SEMRush, etc. would show this data along side.
Or, you can also use Google trends. Head over to trends.google.com/trends/, type your keyword and see the search volume history.
If the trend is going up continuously, it is a great positive signal. If the trend is declining constantly which means people are losing interest over time and it is outdated so not a good sign!
And if the searches go up only in a specific which means you will only get traffic at that time even if the tools show the massive search volume. For instance, “Black Friday Deals’ is a good example of this type of keyword.
In short, you have to look for evergreen keywords with good traffic potential.
Also, note that people search the same thing in a variety of ways so your blog post won’t only rank for a single keyword.
2. Use Buzzsumo to Find Viral Blog Post Topics
If you want to find the blog post topics that are proven to go viral on social media, look no further. Buzzsumo finds the most shared content about a specific topic or of a particular domain.
Simply head over to Buzzsumo.com. Now type a domain or a keyword. For Example, Let’s enter a popular website in the blogging space. I just entered bloggingwizard.com and here are its top-performing pages:
Next, you can also search around a keyword. Let’s enter “email marketing” for an example and here you go:
Bingo! No doubt, it is a great way to find popular topics for social media. So, you can use this tool to find such popular content ideas for your blog.
But here’s a catch: It is not necessary that the content that performed well on social media, would also perform well on SERPs.
Social media is great to generate good amount of blog traffic in quick time. But the average life span of a social media post is less than 24 to 48 hours.
That means, after 48 hours of posting on social media, your social post will hardly drive any traffic to your blog.
Now, before you completely ignore social media, let me share a story from my blogging experience back in 2014.
I had been consistently creating high quality post, optimising for SEO, sharing on social media, and making every effort I could think of for growing my blog traffic.
But sadly, I could only get a few hundred page views per day, and less than 100 blog visitors. No matter what I was trying, I was not able to increase my blog traffic.
Then, one day things changed around and I noticed my blog traffic stats like this:
I was shocked to see this, and surprisingly tried to find out the reason for how my blog started getting so much traffic suddenly?
When I further investigated, I found that, someone shared my blog article on StumbleUpon.
(For those, who are new to the term, StumbleUpon used to be a popular social platform for discovering and recommending personalised content to users. Back in June 2018, it ceased its operations.)
When the person shared it, I’m not sure how but perhaps several people re-shared that. This was one of my first viral blog post, and several thousands people shared it on social media which resulted into huge traffic to my blog.
I was dancing in joy as my blog kept driving huge blog traffic for free. But as the day started passing by, the traffic also started decreasing.
It kept decreasing, until it became consistent on a certain traffic range. Nothing new! It was as usual as I had expected.
But, I also did notice something strange.
My overall blog traffic from search engines like Google, increased from less than a few hundred visitors per day to several thousand visitors per day.
And this happened because the overall authority of my domain instantly increased and many of my low performing blog posts started ranking higher in the search engine for better keywords.
Here are the key takeaways from my story:
- You can’t completely rely on social media for blog traffic. As the social post dies in the news feed, traffic starts decreasing.
- But you can’t ignore social media, any post may go viral and drive tons of free blog visitors to your blog
- Once your post goes viral, it improves overall authority of your domain, thus increasing your organic SEO blog traffic in the long run.
Long story short, there is no doubt, social media can generate quick traffic but it is not as sustainable as organic traffic.
So, I advise you to keep both in mind while creating content. But for your blog’s sake, please don’t social media.
2. Create Long-form Detailed Blog Content
It has been proven that long-form content performs better than the short form on the web. And there are multiple case studies to back up this statement –
Backlinko analyzed 912 million blog posts and found that long-form content gets an average of 77.2% more links than short content. And it also outperforms short articles when it comes to social shares.
There are other studies as well like this one where a clear correlation between word count and performance was found.
The key takeaway from this point is that long-form content overall performs well in both aspects. So, you need to focus more on creating comprehensive in-depth blog posts.
But it absolutely doesn’t mean that you need to aggressively focus on word count.
No, Not at all! Adding fluff and filler content to your blog posts will result in a bad user experience and negative signal.
If you can explain it well in just 500 words, that’s also okay! Not every query deserves 2500 words.
When I say comprehensive, it refers to creating an in-depth and more valuable resource for a user (like a one-stop solution for a topic).
A comprehensive blog post ranks for many other keywords as well that are covered in the blog post.
You have to understand and satisfy the search intent. For an estimation, you can take a look at the average word count of top-ranking pages about your target keywords.
And then make a more comprehensive and better content. And this doesn’t mean you need to make it comprehensive in the first go. You can always go back to your old post and update that by adding more content.
In fact, I run my published blog post URL into the SEMRush on-page SEO checker tool, which provides several optimization ideas to make my blog post better so that it competes with top 10 search results.
When I say comprehensive, I mean adding more and more value to the content, covering nearly all aspects and answering all the possible questions in the reader’s mind. But you should stay absolutely relevant to the topic.
However, there should be a single thing in detail that explains everything about the main topic.
3. Make it Super-Valuable and Engaging
See if your content is poor, it will not perform well. Content comes first, distribution is the next part.
Along with providing massive value, it should be structured and designed in a way so that people keep reading it till the end.
Here are some techniques to make your content even more engaging and keep people stick to the post:
- Keep paragraphs short, people don’t read long paragraphs. It should not be more than 3 lines in any paragraphs.
- Use pattern interrupts such as bullet points, visuals, images, etc… this way, people don’t get bored while reading.
- Stories are the best way to connect with people so add a short story wherever it makes sense. (especially in the intro)
- Write in a conversational tone using words like “I” & “you” so your blog readers can get a personal feel and connect with you.
- Keep the design neat and clean. Don’t add many distractions like pops, sidebars, etc.
Along with that, content should address the searcher’s query in a comprehensive plus summarised way because many users want information quickly in brief.
Don’t forget to also cover possible questions.
4. Writing Eye-Catching Headlines
Even if you make it the best blog post on a particular topic with comprehensive information, design, and visuals but if your headline sucks, it won’t be able to generate as much traffic as it deserves.
People first read headlines (whether in SERPs or social media), rest of the content comes later. So your headline should stand out and must be enticing enough that people ignore it. The most important task of your headline is to make people click.
If you can create an attractive headline, you can attract many more visitors with the same efforts. (No surprise!)
In a nutshell, the headline is deciding factor for users whether they will read it or not so you have to focus more on crafting a better headline.
Plus, it will also give you an edge in rankings because CTR is also one of the powerful ranking factors.
If more people are clicking on your blog post and get satisfied with your content, Google will reward you by pushing your ranking up. And same is true for other search engines as well.
Here are some working tips to write click-worthy headlines:
- Make it very specific. It should address what readers can actually expect from this post. Don’t make false claims or clickbait users by showing different promise in headline and not delivering that in content.
- Use at least one power word such as Free, Instant, Quick, Ultimate, Easy, Proven and the list goes on… Power words significantly make people click on your headline.
- Adding Numbers increases clicks and especially odd numbers such as 5,7,17 etc. That is why many professionals would recommend adding numbers in the headline.
- Brackets also have a positive effect.
One of the powerful things is to make your headline emotional using some trigger words and it significantly moves the needle by triggering the emotions. You can add any emotion like curiosity, wow, fear, etc.
SEO Tips to Get More Blog Traffic
Being the best and sustainable source for organic traffic, SEO can’t be ignored.
SEO is the process of optimising your website to rank higher in the SERPs(search engine result pages).
However, if you are a blogger, SEO doesn’t need any introduction. Right? As it is the primary thing to focus on for a blogger apart from content creation.
It is not a dedicated post on how to SEO, so I will not dig much deeper but let me cover some easy tips to generate more traffic from Google and other search engines.
1. Optimising a Blog Post for SEO
Even though Google has been very smart nowadays but still, it’s just an algorithm. So you can do certain things to suit the algorithms as well as satisfy the users so that not only the humans can read your blog post, but also Google can better understand your blog post.
You have to naturally put the primary keyword and related keywords in some places. Here are some best practices:
- Keep the main keyword at the beginning of the blog title
- Naturally place it in the first 100 words as Google puts more weight on it. Also, it makes sense if you’re talking about the same keyword topic.
- Insert your primary keywords and relevant keywords throughout the entire content wherever it makes sense. (not forcefully)
- Put it in URL slug and keep the URL slug short
- Use it in at least one heading or subheading
I recommend you to checkout our ultimate guide to on page SEO.
Warning: Don’t do keyword stuffing at all i.e. inserting it forcefully everywhere even if it doesn’t. It is 2021 and Google is smart enough. Doing so will only result in bad user experience and Google may penalise your website as well. Always try to keep it natural to avoid any penalty.
Instead, a smarter idea is to sprinkle some related and LSI keywords in your article, which leads us to the next point.
2. Topical Optimization to Get Traffic for Multiple Keywords
Have you noticed that how a single blog post rank for hundreds of keywords? Take a look at this screenshot:
This is organic search positions data for various keywords a single article is ranking in Google US. I pulled this data using organic research tool of SEMRush.
As you can see, the single blog post is ranking on different positions for 6699 keywords – these keywords are primary keyword, LSI keywords, and other related keywords.
In fact, even if you don’t primarily target too many keywords in your blog post as main keywords, your blog post may still rank well for several keywords.
Why?
It’s because it is optimised for a topic instead of just a particular keyword.
Though people use the various search term while looking for the same solution. Google and other search engines are smart enough to understand the other variation of keywords.
In order to rank a single blog post for hundreds of keywords, your blog post should cover a topic in a comprehensive way.
Where comprehensive word refers to covering all possible questions, subtopics, and nearly all aspects. Also, keep an eye on the other long tail queries of the keyword.
Next, you have to sprinkle LSI keywords so that Google or other search engines can easily understand your post.
LSI keywords are the related keywords to your main keyword. (they are different from long-tail keywords).
You can check out the “search related to” section at the bottom of SERP. You can also use LSIgraph tool to find a bunch of LSI Keywords.
3. Update Outdated or Old Blog Posts to Boost Blog Traffic
Content freshness is a very crucial ranking factor in Google search ranking algorithms. It’s because Google wants to show the user the most up to date and accurate information on the top.
That’s because, as a user I, you, or anyone else prefers the most updated and fresh information that is accurate. Isn’t it?
Yes, it it.
That’s why updating old content gives many SEO advantages.
Let’s take an example, suppose if you have written a post about the best smartphones one year back so is it still relevant?
No! Since many new smartphones have launched, is your smartphone list still relevant in present moment? Why would someone prefer buying a phone that’s 10-12 months old?
So your content has become outdated and irrelevant now. That’s why you have to update your list to include the smartphones that are best today.
You may have noticed that many blog posts that are performing well, start fading away after a time. Old pages have more power but it is useless if you don’t maintain them by updating frequently with fresh content and most accurate Information.
Key takeaway: Instead of just creating new content, also focus on reviewing old blog posts and make them more valuable, actionable, and up to date by adding fresh information. Or even merge some closely related short posts in one in-depth article.
It optimises your blog post for Google freshness signal. Doing so will surely increase your rankings and traffic without building links. It also slightly increases organic CTR because people tend to click on the latest blog post.
This simple strategy has been working like a charm for me for the past several years. And I’m sure, this will work for you as well. So after reading this post, check out your old blog posts and see if you can update and improve that.
Note: Don’t add irrelevant information just for the sake of updating. Forcibly updating when no update is required, doesn’t work.
4. Build Quality Backlinks
After content, Backlinks are one of the most important ranking factors. If you want higher rankings, then link building is something that you can’t ignore.
I also agree that this is one of the most challenging task for beginners.
Although, without backlinks or with less backlinks, you may rank for low competitive keywords with powerful on page SEO only, but if the keyword has some good competition, you have to get your hands dirty in link building so that you could rank higher and drive free organic traffic.
In case you don’t know about backlinks, let me cover it briefly –
When any other website on the web adds a hyperlink pointing out to your website/post, it is called a backlink. It sends a strong signal to Google that it is great content that’s why people are linking out to it and as a result, you rank better and faster. By doing so, they pass their authority to your page.
More (Quality) Backlinks = higher rankings = More website traffic
Remember that each backlink is not equally valuable and if you create spammy links, it will do harm instead.
You should only try to get high quality backlinks from a very relevant, authoritative website. And these are the links that actually move the needle.
There are tons of link-building strategies out there such as broken link building, skyscraper technique, resource page link building, and many more, I’ll cover that in a separate blog post.
But one of the most efficient and easiest methods for beginners is Guest Blogging.
Guest Posting refers to publishing a blog post on someone else’s blog as a guest. (I’ve covered it later in this post, so keep reading)
5. Start Blog Commenting on Relevant Blogs
Do you know that when you comment on someone else’s blog then you get a backlink? It may be dofollow or no-follow link (in most cases) depending upon how the webmaster has setup the rel tag for comment section in the html body of page.
And there was a time when you could rank low to medium keywords with just blog comment links. It used to work, I have done it many times.
But now, things have changed.
If you still think it works this way, then let me warn you, you have been deceived. It is 2021 where quality matters the most over quantity.
So, Do blog commenting still works?
Short Answer – No!
Long answer – Yes…but there is a catch!
Blog commenting works but not in that way as it used to be. These links can’t only make your rankings go on top but blog commenting is useful in the following ways:-
- It helps you connect with other bloggers in your niche
- It drives some relevant traffic to your website. Many of their fans scroll down and actually read comments and in the initial days, every visit counts.
- Finally, these backlinks are not so effective but still carry a little weight (especially when your website is new) and balances do follow- nofollow ratio.
But before you go away and jump in to start blog commenting, let me tell you, simply commenting like “great post..” is not going to work. (who cares about these type of comments). You have to make your comment valuable.
It is crucial to take time to read the post before you comment. Then you can comment your opinions, recommend to add any point, any arguments, share your experience, add your tips/point, and so on..
This way, your comment will stand out from the crows and people will actually pay attention.
Here’s an awesome example :-
When you write a detailed comment like this, you not only earn a backlink, you also add value to the blog content by starting and engaging in a conversation that might help various other users as well.
Content Promotion Strategies to Drive Traffic to Blog
You Published a blog post.
Now what? Sit & relax, all done !!
Wrong!
Your blog post will get lost among 3 million blog posts published every single day. Only hitting the publish button will not simply work. You have to make a noise and spread words about it over the internet.
So, how do you promote it?
Let me share with you some tried and tested content promotion methods to get massive traffic to your blog.
1. Use Ego Bait to Drive Referral Traffic from Influencers
Do you want to get your content shared by influencers?
It would be great, right? because even a single tweet about your post by an influencer can bring tens of thousands or even hundreds of blog visitors to your blog.
Now, before you start asking influencers to share your blog post or tweet about it, let me tell you, if you simply ask them for a share, it would not work.
Usually, I receive hundreds of such email everyday, and I’m not an influencer, not even close to being a small influencer.
Now, think about it: if a small blogger like me receive hundreds of such email, how many emails popular influencers might be receiving every single day. I usually ignore such emails, so why would they even bother?
If you just ask for a social share or tweet, chances are, the influencers will ignore such emails, and you will also get ignored like others.
So rather than asking for other’s help, think about mutual benefits… Give them something before you ask for anything!
And when I say about giving, it’s doesn’t necessarily mean paying them money. Rather, you can simply offer them something to cheer about.
So what you can offer them?
Backlink/mentions!
You can’t name a single blogger who doesn’t love backlinks. So while writing blog posts, make a habit of mentioning other bloggers and linking out to their content wherever it makes sense.
And when you publish it, let them know about it or they may not be aware of it. You can use this simple template to reach out –
Hi {Name},
I like your content very much so I have linked out to you in my recent posts. Feel free to check it out –
{blog post link}
Cheers,
Your Name
P.S. – It would be a great favour if you share it to your favourite social media.
When you do this effectively without spamming, you will see that in most cases, they will happily give it a share. And that can bring a huge chunk of free referral traffic to your blog.
Warning: Such blog visitors coming from referral traffic of other influencers usually have less attention span. If they don’t don’t like your content, they might quickly go away. So make sure, you do set up your blog properly for list building and collecting their contact information so that you may bring them back later. Here is a free webinar explaining this in detail.
2. Leverage Quora for Targeted Blog Traffic
Quora is the most popular Question and Answer community (Q&A website) with millions of active users. Here, real people like us ask and answer each other’s questions.
There are active followers of almost every topic which means your target audience also hangs out there. So there’s the possibility to build authority and grab the attention of your target audience.
Unlike social media, Quora drives long term traffic to your website.
You can simply head over to quora.com, create a profile, follow spaces and start questioning and answering.
It’s that simple.
But here it’s worth noting that create your profile first before you start answering.
Your profile should be optimized well like –
- A professional headshot
- A short but powerful bio explaining what you do. Also, show your credibility and authority, and achievement.
- A direct killer tagline
Once you have created a profile , now it’s time to start writing answers.
As Quora is a user-generated content platform so there are thousands of questions asked every single day. Replying to every question in your space is not possible.
So, How do you find the right questions to answer on Quora?
Well, you have to focus on answering questions with massive followers and fewer answers ratio.
You can use a tool like Findbetterquestions.com to discover questions with a lot of views and very few quality answers. This tool does your job easier.
Quora also generates massive organic traffic from Google and rank for millions of keywords. So you can also consider these types of questions as they are consistently generating traffic from search engines.
To find these pages, we can use Ahrefs or SEMRush. Here I’m using Ahrefs to illustrate this.
Simply enter the URL in the site explorer, then go to the section of the top page.
Now, use the “include” filter and enter few niche-related keywords to find relevant top pages. In my case, I have entered “blogging”.
Finally, you have to write the answers and strategically link back to your website. Make sure you link to your website naturally and not every time. It doesn’t make sense to keep the answer incomplete and users have to go to your site in order to get full information.
Remember, Quora ranks the answers based on upvotes. This way, you need more upvotes to get more views.
And the thing is, people will only upvote it if they like it. Right?
So your answers should be complete and engaging that people actually read and like. To make you Quora answers engaging, you can –
- Add required images and make them actionable
- Provide immense value
- Tell a story to connect with people
- Be straightforward and precise
And last but not least, you have to strategically link out/recommend your relevant post. Ultimately, you are doing it for promotion.
As a bonus, Quora is a goldmine for endless blog content ideas as well.
Bonus Tip: Apart from Quora, it is also a good idea to focus on active niche forums to drive targeted blog traffic. You can easily find it by searching “keyword” + inurl: forum in Google.
3. Repurpose Content for Maximising Reach
Here is a fact: Not everyone reads blogposts. There are many people who love to consume through videos, audio, etc. instead of text content only and vice versa. Isn’t it?
The same applies to the platforms. Some of the people are most active on Facebook, some on Twitter, some on YouTube, some on LinkedIn, and so on.
So, if you are only creating text-based content, then you can’t get the most exposure. But since you have already put the hard work, time, and efforts in creating content in one form, you need to maximise its reach to get the most out of your efforts.
This is where Repurposing comes into the play. Repurposing your content helps you to maximise the reach of your content on other platforms and media formats, thus helping you leverage the full possible potential.
Let me show you an example: I have created a step by step guide to start a blog and I also created a video on the same topic.
The result?
It has generated additional 2.4k+ views so far.
The good think is: you can do the same.
Don’t worry if you hate camera, or lack confidence on camera. Just watch the video above to see how bad was my camera presence. Lol 😆 I laugh at myself every time I watch this video.
Well, here are some of the best ways to repurpose a blog post and get the most out of it –
- Create a video and upload it to YouTube. (It is the #2 most popular search engine.) And embed that video in your blog post as well.
- You can also upload these videos to Facebook, IGTV, or even use in your Quora answers.
- You can also extract audio and use them as podcast episodes.
- Create a presentation by picking the main points. You can submit it to Slideshare or use it as an Instagram carousel post.
- Create an infographic, submit it to directories, and spread words about it.
- Publish key takeaways as Facebook posts, Tweets, or LinkedIn posts.
- Republish the content on LinkedIn or Medium.
I do all of the above. If you want to see how I do this in action, simply search my user handle (@LearnDigitalwithRahul) on any of these platforms.
Repurposing is one of the most secret weapon many professional bloggers use to drive traffic to their blog. You can do the same to increase your blog traffic.
4. Start Building an Email List to Own Your Blog Traffic
Most of the people will visit your site from organic search, read blog post, consume information, and will never come back.
They remain just visitors, not an audience!
But if you leverage email marketing, you can turn them into engaging audiences from random visitors.
And one of the many advantages of email list building is: You can follow-up and reach out to your email subscribers every time you release a new blog post.
Now, think about the amazing potential for driving free traffic to your blog post using this technique.
When you publish a new blog post, simply write a mini email in few minutes which links back to your latest published new blog post, and hit the send button.
As soon as you click send, the email reaches to the inbox of your email subscribers, and as a result, you get a good chunk of free blog traffic instantly.
Truly amazing! Right?
Yes, if you leverage email marketing and build a targeted email list of subscribers, you can use this strategy to get massive blog traffic instantly.
And the best thing is: Unlike other platforms like Facebook, you have full control over your email list.
You can drop an email into their inbox anytime whereas, on social media, you don’t have any control over organic reach. I have discussed this in detail in another blog post, click here to read.
To be honest, for me, this old school marketing strategy still drives the highest conversion rates.
Ignoring email marketing is just like leaving big money on the table.
To start building an email list, you only need 2 essential things :
- A lead magnet
- An email marketing tool
A lead magnet is simply an incentive you offer visitors to give their email addresses. You can offer anything from weekly updates, ebook, pdf version cheat sheet, video training, and so on.
For example, I offer a free 7-days blogging mastery course through email on this blog. And this works like crazy.
Next, you need a tool to collect email addresses and deliver your emails. You can get started with a free ConvertKit account. Its free plan allows you to manage up to 1000 email subscribers.
Further, you will get to know many advanced email marketing strategies like automation and segmentation which can skyrocket your conversions and profits.

5. Use Guest Posting to Drive Relevant Traffic
I’ve mentioned guest posting earlier in this article as one of the easiest ways to get backlinks.
To remind you, Guest posting (also known as guest blogging) is a strategy to write and publish posts on someone else’s blog and in return, they usually link back to your website.
This is a old school method but still works very well which help you to:-
- Get powerful contextual Backlinks
- Drive relevant referral traffic
- Get exposure and increase brand awareness
- Connect with other bloggers
- Build authority around a topic
Guest blogging is still quite effective if you do it right. If you want to use guest blogging to drive quality traffic, you should consider getting published on highly targeted and relevant blogs that are in similar niche as yours.
Here is how guest blogging works in 3 simple steps –
- You find sites that accept guest posts
- You pitch them, and get the webmaster’s permission
- Once allowed, you submit your guest post and then they publish
You can easily find sites that accept guest post using simple search operators like-
“keyword” + guest post
“keyword” + write for us
“keyword” + become a contributor
“keyword” + submit guest post
And so on.
In keywords, you have to enter your niche/category. There are also many opportunities that don’t have a write for us or guest post guideline page. And such websites are great to target and pitch, as not everyone is pitching them.
You have to reach out to only relevant sites that have good authority.
Taking it one step further, you can also consider reverse guest posting.
Which means you will invite other bloggers to guest post on your blog. It also works well.
You have to reach out to the bloggers that are guest posting on other similar blogs to yours. He/she should know his/her stuff like the back of his hand.
You can’t be a good fit for every topic so it’s a win-win situation. You get expert-written content or even the sam content with a different perspective, whereas the other blogger gets exposure.
6. Promote it on Social Media for Instant Traffic
Once the blog post goes live, you need to spread the words about it on social media. It is always a good idea to be active on major social media platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter, and Instagram.
Social media help you to :
- Get Instant Traffic
- Get more comments and engagement (users who will love may also give it a share.)
- Get your blog posts indexed quickly because of social signals
- Get an opportunity to go viral and increase your domain authority, thus, as a result, boosting your overall blog traffic (recall my story that I shared above)
The algorithm of each social media platform works differently so it totally depends on you how efficiently you use it.
For example, when you’re creating a massive blog post, you can announce it ahead and create curiosity about it.
I also recommend you create a Facebook group to build an engaging community around your blog.
Easy and FREE Traffic Sources to Get Free Website Traffic Fast
When we are talking about promoting blog posts on social media, there are certain free traffic sources where you can share your blog posts to get free website traffic.
Here is a video I created earlier. Watch this video because in this video, you’ll learn how to get free traffic to your website fast.
You may use these traffic sources to promote you blog articles and drive visitors to your blog.
Paid Marketing Strategy to Drive Traffic to Your Blog
When you’re just starting out from scratch, and if you have got the budget, you can also run paid ads to drive some traffic to your blog post. If you don’t have budget, it’s fair! you don’t need to run ads.
By running ads you can get some targeted visitors and turn them into audience using email marketing. This way, you can quickly build some audience in the initial stages and also get conversions if the proper strategy is in place.
There are lot of platforms for paid advertising such as Facebook, Twitter, Google, YouTube, Instagram, LinkedIn, Quora, etc.
But one of the most effective, affordable, and my personal recommendation is Facebook ads.
It is great even if you don’t already know how to run Facebook ads effectively. The Facebook ad builder is pretty self explanatory, and also you can start with basic tutorials on the internet.
The better you target the audience, the better results you get in less cost!
Here’s a cool tip – First install pixels of each social media on your website, bring some website traffic and let the pixel populate with visitor’s data. Then run an ad retargeting the visitors of your website. This way audience will be very laser targeted and you will have have to pay very less CPC.
However, it’s worth noting that this works great for blogs with existing traffic, because if you don’t have traffic, pixel will not have enough data for retargeting.
This reminds me of the question: How to Get Traffic to New Blog?
How to Get Traffic to a New Blog with SEO and Without SEO?

Bonus Tips to Get More Blog Traffic
When it comes to increasing blog traffic, I can go on and on. I wish I could share every method I have tried and tested since started blogging in 2013.
But sharing everything in a short blog post like this is not possible. That’s why I’m leaving you with some bonus tips for increasing you blog traffic.
Adding social share buttons to your blog post allows readers to easily share it if they like it.
For desktop devices, I recommend you to add on sidebars so one can share while reading anytime instantly, whereas for mobile users, you add to the end of the blog post. If the reader is reading till the end, he/she probably liked it.
Don’t just add buttons, also ask them to give it a share. (it works!)
There are various social sharing plugins to add buttons. I personally use a plugin named Social Snap.
2. Add a Click to Tweet Links
Wherever you include a tweet-able quote, stats, or thoughts in your blog article, must add a clickable tweet link like this, so that the users may instantly tweet. Here’s an example –
You can use click to tweet plugin to add this.
And when someone’s clicks to tweet it, you get free referral traffic to your blog post which results into increased website traffic.
3. Host a Giveaway
Hands down, people love giveaways which is why a giveaway is one of the best ways to get more exposure to your blog. Just through hosting a giveaway, you can quickly generate many leads and traffic.
To enter in a giveaway people have to provide their email which you can add to your list. Next, they may need to share it for more entries to increase their chances of winning.
4. Be a Guest on Other’s Podcasts
If you have good knowledge about your topic, going on podcasts as a guest expert is an amazing way to get exposure. Podcasting is booming but creating a podcast is a time-consuming process and requires consistent efforts.
So why not leverage other’s podcast for mutual benefits. That’s why going on others’ podcast as a guest is a clever idea which helps you get more exposure from their audience. In addition, you also get a sweet powerful backlink and quality blog traffic.
